Gisela Stuart welcomes planning approval for new Harborne baths
Submitted by Gisela on Fri, 11/06/2009 - 06:00.Gisela has welcome a decision by city planners yesterday (05 November) to approve a new pool and fitness centre for Harborne.
Harborne pool was built in 1923 and the shelf life for vital components expired several years ago. The new sports facility will have a 25 metre pool and a smaller teaching pool. It will also have a fitness centre and a dance studio.
Harborne Pool will close in February in order to start the rebuild.

Funding update
Submitted by Gisela on Tue, 10/20/2009 - 05:00.Gisela Stuart has welcomed the announcement by Birmingham City Council that funding has been allocated for the redevelopment of Harborne Baths. The Council have finally authorised £12 million worth of funding for a much-needed new leisure centre in Harborne, the current one being in a very bad state of repair.
The new centre is set to be completed by 2011. It will be on Lordswood Road , at the same site as the current baths. These were built in 1923 and are in such a dire state that they will be demolished to make way for the new leisure centre.
Gisela welcomes progress on baths redevelopment
Submitted by Tom on Tue, 09/08/2009 - 16:45.Birmingham City Council has today notified Gisela that the planning application for the redevelopment of Harborne Baths has been received. The next stage will be a public consultation which Gisela encourages all users of the baths to engage with and submit their views.
This is a welcome step in the campaign for the redevelopment of Harborne Baths. Gisela first called on Birmingham City Council to provide better facilities for the pool users in 2001. After much dithering and confusion over where the money would come from, progress is being made.
Gisela demands timetable for plans to rebuild baths
Submitted by Tom on Wed, 09/02/2009 - 14:30.Gisela Stuart has called on council bosses to tell residents of Edgbaston, Harborne, Bartley Green and Quinton when the new swimming baths are expected to open.
The Council is currently drawing up detailed planning applications for the new baths. A final decision on funding will be taken by the City Council cabinet in the autumn.
Gisela is also seeking assurances that the project will not fall behind schedule as a result of being tied to the Olympic pool project in the City Centre.

Gisela calls for there to be no more delays
Submitted by Tom on Wed, 01/28/2009 - 06:00.Harborne residents are increasingly concerned that the rebuilding of Harborne Baths will be delayed as the project is being 'lumped' with two other big swimming developments in the city - the Olympic pool by the NIA and Stechford’s Cascades centre.
Gisela has made clear to the Council that local residents have been waiting far too long for serious action to be taken. She will continue to monitor developments to ensure that Harborne gets the new pool it was promised.
Gisela says: "Cabinet's baths plan is not good enough"
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 12/16/2008 - 12:47.16 December 2008
I would like to thank the hundreds of residents who supported my petition calling upon the City Council’s Cabinet to honour their pledge to rebuild Harborne Swimming Baths.
The City Council was forced to give a commitment to rebuild the baths following a long campaign, but questions remain as to when the rebuilding is likely to start and whether there is money available to pay for it.
The petition was presented to the Leader of the Council before the Cabinet Meeting held on 15 December, which considered proposals for the future of the pool.

Despite the long campaign that compelled the City Council to give a commitment to rebuild the baths, questions still remain as to when the rebuilding is likely to start and whether the money is available to pay for the work.
