Gisela has welcome a decision by city planners yesterday (05 November) to approve a new pool and fitness centre for Harborne.

Harborne pool was built in 1923 and the shelf life for vital components expired several years ago. The new sports facility will have a 25 metre pool and a smaller teaching pool. It will also have a fitness centre and a dance studio.

Harborne Pool will close in February in order to start the rebuild.

Gisela said:

“Finally we now have all the key components to rebuild this vital local facility. The finance needed to build the pool was agreed last month and now the plans have been approved.

“It has been a long time coming however. Local campaigners have been pressing for this for over 10 years.

“I will be writing to the council to ask for a detailed breakdown of its plans for the project to ensure it gets started on time.”
